Field Staff: Job Description
This student position exposes you all aspects of maintaining NCAA 1-A Level fields with the opportunity to learn and grow professionally from industry leading sports field managers. Our work is constantly on display in front of some of the largest attended collegiate sporting events in the nation. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and playability of all our athletic fields.
Field Staff: Job Requirements
Assist in all aspects of maintaining a professional playing surface including, mowing, irrigation repair, fertilizing, aerating, mound and plate repair, infield clay work, edging, machine maintenance, and tarp pulls. The candidate must be able to work long hours and be flexible working days, nights, weekends, holidays and in a variety of weather conditions. An ideal candidate has an eagerness to learn the skills associated with the sports turf profession. Students should expect to be on hand and available for weekend athletic events depending on the sporting season.
Field Staff: Duties and Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
Operate equipment and use of hand tools
Organizing and maintaining grounds shop areas
Maintaining clay areas to certain specifications
Infield skin preparation
Mowing
Spreader applications
Warning track maintenance
Edging
Watering grass and infield skin
Mid-game field drags
Diagnosing turfgrass pests and disease
Recognizing and preventing any field safety issues
Irrigation repairs
Equipment maintenance
Batting practice setup
Game field preparation including painting logos, striping, and mixing paint
Cultural practices such as aeration, topdressing, rolling
Landscaping
Other duties as assigned

Field Staff: Benefits and Opportunities
Students workers are paid minimum wage with overtime allowed. Students will work and attend most major sporting events and have the opportunity to experience a behind the scenes look at the entire game day experience. For some events, depending on availability, students will receive a meal from the athletic department. Student workers will also receive a staff badge which receives a 50% off discount at concession stands.
Student workers will also have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on player, coach, and fan experiences. Students will receive training and hands-on experience from top industry professionals that will prepare them for success in sports field management or related industry.
